A scale is a set of questions, often called items, that are grouped together to help measure an underlying concept. For example, if we wanted to find out about how much about someone’s resilience, we might ask them to rate (or score) the extent to which they agree they demonstrate a set of behaviours, such as “I quickly bounce back from set-backs” and “It does not take me long to recover after stressful events”. We would then create an average score across all the items to get a sense of that individual’s resilience.
Absolutely! As a survey creator you do this by going into the survey you have created that you want people to re-take and make a second group. Add the same participants into this second group and send them an invite – or use the public link from this second group. In your results page for the survey you will be able to see results from group 1 and group 2 for each scale within your survey. For an individual to track your development over time create your own personal survey with the scales you want to re-take and see your changes in the ‘results over time’ tab.
Unlike competitors, we don’t offer just one way to view leadership or personal development. Each persons’ goals and context are different. We have a large library of scales measuring different concepts that are relevant to personal development and leadership. You can select any you like. Within the platform, we give suggestions of readymade surveys you can use to start with and ideas about which scales to use if you’re interested in particular aspects of leadership or personal development. We are continually expanding our additional resources and we’d love your feedback on what else you’d like to see within TEXL.
Individuals, educators, researchers, consultancies and companies can all benefit from TEXL. TEXL is free for individuals to use to explore their own personal development. It’s also free for academics and researchers to use the basic features. For commercial purposes, Executive Education, consultancies and companies there will be a per participant charge, please get in touch to discuss options for your purposes.
Each scale in our library has been published in a peer reviewed journal and the full reference for each scale is in our library and in the results pages giving full transparency as to how the scales were developed and tested.
